Fool or Genius? The Mystery of…
In tarot reading, there is one card that makes everyone nervous. It's not «Death» or «The Devil,» which at least provoke some kind of feeling — even if not the most positive ones. No, we're talking about the «Fool» — the zero Arcana. This card doesn’t scare, doesn’t awe, but rather evokes a strange feeling: “Hey, what exactly is this?”. It has no number, it stands at the very beginning of the deck, like someone who showed up at the party without an invitation but with such a presence that now everyone is forced to talk to them. And so, we ask ourselves: who is this Fool really? A fool or a genius?
When you start your journey through the online tarot reading deck, you expect to meet great heroes, wise elders, and magicians who are ready to teach you everything you need for life.
The Fool is the beginning of everything. He opens the way in tarot cards like a child stepping into an unknown world, full of enthusiasm, but with no clue what awaits him. This is a card that has no number because its meaning cannot be measured — it doesn’t follow the laws established by the other cards. He exists outside of time and space, and perhaps that’s why it’s so hard to understand who he really is.
The Fool is like that strange friend who bursts into your plans, tears up all agreements, and makes you doubt if your plan was any good in the first place. Sometimes you don’t even understand why they ended up in your life, but after their arrival, you’re sure everything has changed. And maybe that’s their job — to destroy the old in order to make room for the new.
On one hand, the Fool is the one who «doesn’t understand» the rules, but because of that, he steps beyond them. He may seem like a fool because his actions often don’t fit within familiar frames, but it is exactly because of this that he can be the genius who breaks down old concepts and builds new ones. His energy is limitless, like a young daring person who doesn’t yet understand that jumping off a roof is a bad idea, but in this lies his strength.
Let’s not forget that the Fool is not just a fool with a happy face — he’s a traveler, ready to go to unexplored places. When you start your journey with this card, you may not have a clear idea of where you’re going, but that’s what makes your path unique. The Fool isn’t afraid to walk unfamiliar paths, and perhaps that’s why he opens the way among thetarot card meanings. He’s not burdened by experiences that could slow down the other cards, so he boldly steps into what he doesn’t fear — the unknown.
On the other hand, within his carefreeness and lack of a plan, there is danger. We all know how hard it is to learn from our mistakes when we don’t even understand what’s going on. The Fool is the card that cannot grasp the full seriousness of his actions, and how often in life do we, like him, rush forward without understanding the consequences? But even in this, there is a certain beauty: he isn’t afraid of falling because he sees nothing scary about it.
When a crisis comes into our life, what do we do? We often lose confidence, begin making clear plans, and become afraid to take risks. In these moments, the Fool can be our guide and mentor because he knows no fear. Periods of uncertainty, crisis, and change are the times when we might, for the last time, allow ourselves to be like the Fool: to walk blindly, not thinking of the consequences, but with full confidence that life is leading us somewhere.
Do you remember how it feels? You suddenly decide to change your job, move to another city, or start a new hobby — and though it may seem ridiculous, these moments often turn out to be the turning points in life. The Fool teaches us not to fear change, even when we don’t know where it will lead us.
Each of us has, at least once in our life, faced a moment when we didn’t know what to do. When it seems like everything is falling apart and you don’t know how to get out of that dead end. In these moments, the Fool appears, who perhaps makes us take an unconventional decision — to take a step into the unknown. And while this decision may seem reckless, it may become the beginning of something new that will change everything.
